# Pane vs intentic: terminal-first agent manager or sandboxed workspace

Compare Pane, also called RunPane, on Windows and WSL, agents, permission defaults, remote hosts and review. This is the open-source agent manager at runpane.com.

Pane is a terminal-first, open-source agent manager for every coding CLI on Windows, macOS and Linux. It runs Claude Code, Codex, Aider or any CLI agent in parallel, one worktree per pane.

The short answer

Choose Pane for a fast, terminal-first manager that runs any CLI agent, treats Windows and WSL as first-class and gives every pane its own ports. Choose intentic when you want the agents inside a Docker sandbox and a workspace you open from any browser.

Pane says plainly that it does not sandbox agents and starts its built-in agents with permission prompts skipped. That is a fair trade on a trusted machine, and it is the main difference from intentic.

## Pane vs intentic: at a glance

▸ marks Pane's strengths (3 rows)

Any agent, one branch per task · Both run several coding agents at once, each in its own git worktree, using the CLIs and plans you already have. Both can keep the agents on another machine and reach them from a phone.

| Dimension | intentic | Pane |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Licence | MIT | AGPL-3.0 with added attribution terms |
| Platforms | Browser on any system; sandbox on a Docker host | ▸Windows x64 and ARM64, macOS, Linux; repositories inside WSL |
| Agents | Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok, Kimi Code, Devin and ACP agents | ▸Any CLI agent in a real terminal; Claude Code, Codex and Cursor built in |
| Isolation | Docker sandbox plus a git worktree per conversation | Worktree per pane; no sandbox, full shell permissions |
| Permission default | Plan mode on the shared tree; own-branch work unprompted inside the sandbox | Built-in agents start with prompts skipped, on the host |
| Per-task tooling | A sandbox image with the tools you approved | ▸Own port block, copied .env, and CPU, memory and cost per pane |
| Remote access | Private tunnel from any browser or phone | Remote Pane over Tailscale, SSH or a tunnel; browser app; iOS in TestFlight |

## The main differences

01

### No sandbox or a Docker sandbox

Pane runs agents with your full shell permissions and calls the worktree a soft boundary, not a sandbox. Its Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode buttons start them in their skip-the-prompts modes. intentic runs agents in a Docker sandbox and lands their changes only after you review the diff.

02

### Windows, WSL and per-pane tooling

Pane ships Windows x64 and ARM64 builds, opens repositories inside WSL and gives each pane its own block of ports and a copied .env file. intentic opens in a browser on any system; on Windows its sandbox runs in Docker through WSL2.

03

### Remote Pane or a sandbox in the browser

Locally, Pane's agents stop when you quit. Remote Pane keeps the interface on your desktop while agents run on a VM, a WSL box or another machine over Tailscale, SSH or a tunnel, with a browser app for phones. intentic's sandbox reaches every browser through a private tunnel.

## When to choose Pane

Pick Pane if you work on Windows or in WSL, want any CLI agent in a real terminal with no plugins, and value per-pane ports, cost and resource monitors. It is free, and Remote Pane moves agents to a server you own. Choose intentic when you want a container around the agents and a review step before work lands.

## Pane: common questions

### What is Pane (RunPane)?

Pane, also called RunPane, is an open-source, terminal-first agent manager from Dcouple, which its homepage now presents as Greenfield. It runs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any CLI agent in parallel, one git worktree per pane, on Windows, macOS and Linux.

### Is Pane free and open source?

Yes. Pane is AGPL-3.0 with added terms that require keeping Dcouple's attribution visible in the interface. There is no subscription; paid services such as managed cloud worktrees are only planned. intentic is MIT and free to self-host.

### Does Pane sandbox coding agents?

No. Its security docs say Pane does not sandbox the agent process, which runs with your full shell permissions, and its built-in agent buttons skip permission prompts. Add an agent as a custom command to keep the prompts. intentic runs agents in a Docker sandbox.

### Does Pane work on Windows and WSL?

Yes. Pane ships Windows x64 and ARM64 builds and can open repositories inside WSL and run agents in the distribution. Windows builds are currently unsigned. intentic's workspace opens in any browser; on Windows its sandbox runs in Docker through WSL2.

### Can I use Pane remotely or from my phone?

Yes. Remote Pane runs agents on a VM, a WSL box or another machine, connected over Tailscale, SSH or an HTTPS tunnel, and its browser app works on phones. A native iOS app is in TestFlight. On a local machine, agents stop when you quit Pane.

### Pane vs Conductor or Claude Squad: what is different?

Pane runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and can read a Conductor conductor.json file. Conductor is a proprietary Mac app. Claude Squad is an AGPL terminal UI over tmux. intentic is a browser workspace with agents in a Docker sandbox.
